Midrasha-College
Sets Class Schedule

The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies is co-
sponsoring a series of courses
with area temples and
synagogues beginning in
November.
Congregation Shir Tikvah
and the Midrasha will co-
sponsor two courses Sundays,
Nov. 1-22. "Today's Supreme
Court Decisions: Looking
through Jewish Eyes" will
meet 9:45-10:45 a.m. "Back to
the Future: Jewish Com-
munities throughout His-
tory" will meet 11 a.m.-noon
and will explore Jewish life in
various communities focusing
on social, political, religious
and intellectual movements.
They will meet at Costello
Elementary School, 1333
Hamman Road, Troy.
Temple Shir Shalom and
the Midrasha will co-sponsor
a course titled "Contem-
porary Issues in Jewish Life"
Mondays for four weeks
November 2-23, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
at Temple Shir Shalom.
Temple Beth El and the
Midrasha will co-sponsor a
course titled, "Finding Our
Way: Jewish Text and the
Lives We Lead Today." This
course is based on Barry
Holtz's book Finding Our
Way. It will meet Mondays for
four weeks Nov. 2-23, 7 to 8
p.m. "One Day Hebrew
Marathon: Low Anxiety Lear-
ning" will also be co-
sponsored by Temple Beth El
and will meet Nov. 8, 10
a.m.-4 p.m. This workshop is
designed for students who
want to learn to read Hebrew
and increase their Hebrew
prayerbook vocabulary. No
prior knowledge of Hebrew is
required.
The courses will meet at
Temple Beth El.
Adat Shalom Synagogue
and the Midrasha will co-
sponsor a course titled,
"Selected Readings from
Talmudic Literature" Tues-
days, four weeks from Nov.
3-24, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Adat
Shalom Synagogue. Although
no previous study of Talmud
is required, a reading
knowledge of Hebrew is
required.
Congregation Beth Abra-
ham Hillel Moses and the
Midrasha will co-sponsor four
courses Wednesdays for four
weeks beginning Nov. 4 at
Congregation Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses. "The Bible and
the Spade: Examining the Bi-
ble in Light of Archaeological
Evidence" will meet 7:30 to
8:30 p.m. "Super Rabbis Who

Have Shaped Judaism" will
meet Wednesdays Nov. 4-Dec.
2, 7:30-8:30 p.m. "Was
Cinderella Jewish? What
Happens When the Wise Men
of Chelm Meet the Brothers
Grimm," an exploration of
folklore from a Jewish
perspective, will meet
8:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesdays for
four weeks Nov. 4-Dec. 2.
"Let's Talk Tachlis about
Halachah" will meet Wednes-
days Nov. 4, 18 and 22,
8:30-9:50 p.m. on ethical
guidelines to contemporary
issues.
All of the above courses are
open to the community. There
is a charge. For registration

Hebrew Classes
At Machon

Machon L'Torah will begin
two Hebrew crash courses.
For the more advanced,
there will be a course in con-
versational Hebrew led by
Rabbi Shaul Broner Sunday
evenings for six weeks begin-
ning Nov. 1 at 7:30-9 p.m.;
there is a registration fee.
For beginners with little or
no Hebrew background, a
course in Hebrew reading led
by Jeff Perlstein will be held
Tuesday evenings for five
weeks beginning Nov. 3
7:30-9 p.m.; there is a
registration fee.
Both classes will be held at
the Machon Learning Center,
15221 W. 10 Mile Rd.; reser-
vations are required. For in-
formation and reservations,
call Machon, 967-0888.

Blood Drive Set
At Adat Shalom

Adat Shalom Synagogue c,
will hold a blood donor drive
3-9 p.m. Nov. 9 at the
synagogue.
Anyone in good health, 17 c:
years or older, weighing at
least 110 pounds is eligible to
donate blood. Red Cross
specialists will handle all pro-
cedures. The entire process `'.=
takes approximately one
hour. An appointment time
may be scheduled by calling
Edie Rubin, 661-3835. Others
will be taken on a first come,
first served basis.
The drive is sponsored by
the synagogue's Social Action
Committee.
