the good job Tom is doing in

30 years with family enter-
tainment plus donuts and
' cider. Two women were
gossiping about a mutual
friend . . . Suddenly one stop-
ped, took a deep breath and
said, "I can't give you any
more details; I've already told
you more than I heard."
The myths that parents tell
their children about the
mystery of childbirth are ap-
parently universal . . . Like

the little boy who had just
been brought to the United
States from Israel . . . The
parents took their son, David,
to the Bronx Zoo . . . David
was impressed with the lions,
tigers and elephants, but he
was enchanted at his first
sight of a stork . . . David
stared at the long-legged bird
for a long time, hoping for
something to happen . . .
Finally, terribly disappointed,
he turned to his parents,
"Papa," little David said sad-
ly, "he doesn't recognize me."
Jake, who was in his late
80s, decided he was going to
enjoy one more tremendous
fling . . . But first he had
himself fitted with a brand-
new hairpiece . . . Then he
went to a plastic surgeon who
created a new, youthful face
for Jake . . . A celebrated
massuer pounded and
massaged Jake into a brand-
new body . . . Finally, he went
out and bought a dozen of the
latest style suits . . . Now
ready for a good time, Jake
flew to Miami Beach, met a
glamorous young beauty, and
hired a car.
They were riding down Col-
lins Avenue when a bolt of
lighting hit Jake . . . In an in-
stant, Jake found himself at
the Gates of Heaven . . .
"Why did you do this to me?"
cried Jake. "Just when I had
a new face, a new body, new
clothes." . . . "Sorry, Jake!"
came a voice of thunder. "I
didn't recognize you!"

LOOKING BACK on col-
umns of yesteryears .. .
March 26, 1971 . . . "It was
14 years ago when Anita Gold
(Mrs. Phil) was the art
teacher at Detroit's
Vandenberg School and one of
her students, little Jimmy
Niekamp, rocking back in his
chair, fell and hit his head
severely enough to be
hospitalized .. Anita never
did find out what happened to
little Jimmy since soon after
she took a maternity leave .. .
Over the years, whenever
their youngsters, Lisa,
Howard or David, would rock
back in a chair, mommy
Anita would repeat the story
of what happened to little
Jimmy.
"Recently all five Golds,
great hockey fans, went to a
Detroit Red Wing game at
Olympia and on the forward
line with Gordie Howe and
Alex Delvecchio was a new
player . . . big 6'2" Jimmy
Niekamp!"
AS THE WAITER ap-
proached, the diner looked up
and roared, "Hey, how come
your thumb is on my steak?"
. . . "Well, sir," the waiter
replied righteously, "I didn't
want it to fall off again."
