Jewish teens from around the
state sang in harmony. They

(Michigan State Temple
Youth) and they were taking

mer Conclave, Aug. 18-23, at
Camp Daggett north of
Charlevoix.

Temple Emanu-El Temple

Youth.

The conclave was planned
by co-chairs Elana Bodzin,
Huntington Woods; Jill

was "The Plight of the
Children."
Each temple youth group
planned and ran services and
programs that related to the
theme.
The workshops, including
drama, social action, sports,
arts and crafts, hangin' with
Jeff & Shawna (a little bit of
everything), Israeli dance and

up at around 8. Breakfast, at
8:30, usually consisted of cold
cereal, some type of egg oil
pancake, and toast or bagels.___,
After breakfast and a rendi=\
tion of the blessing, we would
move on to morning services:
We would sit on bleachers
overlooking the picturesque
lake as we prayed.
The morning programs
were unique in their style
and message, but they all_
related to the underlying
theme of the week. During
one of the programs we
pretended that we were a sup-
port group, and we had to
comfort and find solutions for
other MSTYites who convin-
cingly played the role of
inner-city children with dif-
ferent urban problems.
The programs Were follow::
ed by free time, lunch and a
traditional MSTY song ses-
sion. Afternoon workshops.
might include drama,
directed by Kim Jacobs and
Tracy Roth. We would play ex-
citing drama games, lik
freeze, during which two peo-
ple act out a situation and are
stopped by one of the au-
dience members, who
replaces one of the actors and
changes the situation.
Afternoon free time could
include basketball, football,
pickleball (an exciting rac- 71
quet sport combining tennis
and table tennis), euchre and
other card games. Some chose
to canoe, swim, or just relax
