CARLA JEAN SCHWARTZ

bsolut Vodka, Inter-
view magazine and
Urban Architecture
sponsored Education 92 on
March 24 at Industry in
Pontiac to benefit the Design
Industries Foundation for
AIDS (DIFFA). Jonathan
Holtzman was chairman of
the event which drew 1,000
patrons. DIFFA will be the
recipient of more than
$100,000 from an auction led
by Robert Woolley, of
Soethby's, which included
works from New York graf-
fiti artists. Another
highlight of the evening in-
cluded a runway show with
Absolut fashions coor-
dinated by Linda Dresner.
Restaurants Mon Jin Lau,
Rattlesnake Club and Pike
Street provided the fare.
Dr. Jerome Horwitz,
creator the drug AZT used in
the treatment of AIDS, was
presented with the Edu-
cation 92 Humanitarian
Award. Dr. Horwitz de-
veloped the drug some 20
years ago for the treatment
of cancer. Keith Johnson
of Urban Architecture told
Dr. Horwitz that he sent a
letter about his work to the
Nobel Prize Committee.
Many distinguished guests
from across the country at-
tended this event, including
fashion designers Kevan
Hall (a former Detroiter),
Celia Tejada and Maggie
Barry. Michel Roux, CEO
and president of Carillon
Importers, and John Hart-
man, DIFFA president, also
were present. A pre-glow
party was held the night
before at the home of
Susan Winton-Feinberg and
Jonathan Holtzman.
interior designer Susan
Winton-Feinberg. Guests
mingled with New York ar-
tists, dined on haute cuisine
from the Mark of Excellence,
and toured the fabulous
home. Some of the people
spotted in the crowd includ-
ed: Susan Terebelo, Mira
Linder, Harry Colburn,
Ron and Shelly Harwood,
Stuart Gorelick and Rick
Goldsmith.
BUILDERS SHOW
The Builders Association
of Southeastern Michigan
recently held the 1992
International Builders,
Home, Flower and Furniture
Show at Cobo Hall. The
show captured the lifestyle
trends of the '90s with envi-
ronmentally sound and
energy efficient ideas.
Recycled decks, "Smart"
homes with the latest
technology, and furniture
made from fallen logs were
just some of the unique ex-
hibits.
