Music Society
March Concerts

Seven concerts — including
leading symphonic and
chamber ensembles, a famous
boys choir, two early music
groups and a solo piano
recital — will be presented in
March by the University
Musical Society of the
University of Michigan. The
music will span six centuries,
from 15th-century Spanish to
20th-century American.
The Vienna Choir Boys will
appear 7 p.m. March 4 at Hill
Auditorium. A hallmark of
each program is their perfor-
mance of a one-act comic
opera — this year, Johann
Strauss' Tales from the Vien-
na Woods.
The Consort of Musicke
with Emma Kirkby, soprano,
and Anthony Rooley, flutist,
will perform 8 p.m. March 6
at Rackham Auditorium. A
Philips Pre-concert Presenta-
tion will be given by Dr.
Glenn Watkins, professor of
music, U-M, on "The Genius
of Claudio Monteverdi —
Prima e Seconda Prattica," in
the Rackham East Lecture
Room, 7 p.m. The program is
free and open to the public.
No Pogorelich, pianist, will
play 8 p.m. March 11 at Hill
Auditorium.
The Faculty Artists Concert
will be presented 8 p.m.
March 15 at Rackham
Auditorium.
The Beaux Arts Trio will
perform 8 p.m. March 21 at
Rackham Auditorium.
The Waverly Consort will
appear 8 p.m. March 28 at
Rackham Auditorium. "The
Year 1492: Spanish Music in
the Age of Columbus" will be
the focus of this American
early-music ensemble of six
singers and four
instrumentalists.
The Philips Pre-concert
Presentation will be done by'
Judith Laiken Elkin, project
director, U-M, on "Jews and
their Encounter with the
New World, 1492/1992" in the
Rackham Amphitheatre, 7
p.m. The presentation is free
and open to the public.
