Recital, Concert

Pianist No Pogorelich will
give his Detroit piano recital
debut on Detroit Symphony
Orchestra Hall's In Recital
Series 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at Or-
chestra Hall. Mt Pogorelich's
program will include several
works by Chopin.
Henry Mancini will return
to Detroit to lead the DSO in
its Pops concerts 8:30 p.m.
Feb. 27, 28, 29 and 3:30 p.m.
March 1 at Orchestra Hall.
Mr. Mancini will be assisted
by Cecil Welch, trumpet; Al
Cobine, saxophone, r,oyc e
Campbell, guitar; Steve Dok-
ken, bass; and Jack Gilfoy,
drums.
The Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra 1992-93 season will
open Sept. 12 with a gala con-
cert featuring a duo in
classical and jazz music, Yo-Yo
Ma and Bobby McFerrin. The
concert, with the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra, will
highlight the talents of these
two artists.

Features Flutist

Southfield's Concerts in the
Garden series will present the
Alexander Zonjic Quintet
10:30 a.m. Feb. 23 at Days
Hotel Southfield, 17017 W.
Nine Mile Road.
Appearing with Mr. Zonjic
will be Tom Borshuk,
keyboard; Nathan Brown,
bass; Renal Gonsales, drum;
and Lorenzo Brown,
percussion.

Brahms' Variations on a
Theme of Haydn, Hannibal
Peterson's monumental
African Portraits, and the
winning composition in
DSOH's 1992 Unisys African-
American Composers Forum.
