married Mel."
Some of the customers and
friends browsing at the
baubles included: Diane

Scholnick, Cleo and Mitch
Savas, Ann and Joe
Slatkin, Joanne and Terry
Nosan and Mitch and
Diane Mondry.
Doug Schubot, son of the

founder, said his father
Jules first began selling
gems out of his pocket when
he was an usher in the
theater. The first store was
located on Madison Avenue
in Detroit in 1917. In the
1930s the store moved to the
Metropolitan Building. The
late Jules Schubot sold
jewelry to many Hollywood
stars including Tony Mar-

tin, Frank Sinatra and
Sammy Davis Jr.. In 1975,

the store moved to its pre-
sent Troy location. Today
Doug and his wife Sydell
and their son Brian all
work together. Doug
Schubot looks forward to the
day when his newborn
grandson, the fourth genera-
tion Schubot, joins the fami-
ly business.
