CARLA JEAN SCHWARTZ

Local Columnist

T

he Children's Enter-
tainment Company
presented the Jewish
folktale It Could Always Be
Worse at the 40th annual
Jewish Book Fair. The story
is about a man who is
unhappy with his crowded
hut, noisy children and
argumentative wife. When
he asks the rabbi for advice,
the rabbi suggests moving
animals into the home.
When the animals move out,
the man realizes that his life
is not so bad after all. The
moral is, "When things don't
meet expectations, they
could always be worse."
Members of the audience
were asked on stage to play
the parts of the children and
animals. Some of the local
budding actors and actresses
included: Miriam Schloss,
Andrew Soyker, Eric
Ruby, Jessica Sherman
and Andrew Schwartz.

LUNCH BUNCH
High school students Seth
Hitsky and David
Rochlen have major roles
in the Saturday cast of the
Lunch Bunch players, a new
children's theater group per-
forming The Emperor's New
Clothes on weekends at the
Magic Bag Theater Cafe in
Ferndale.
Seth plays the villainous
Screech who tries to win the
emperor's fortune by selling
him a beautiful suit made
from invisible cloth. David
has several major chorus
roles and plays a tailor.

Seth Hitsky and David Rochlen.

Both young actors are also
active on the high school
front. Seth just completed a .<
run as the Chinese houseboy
and the butler in The Pink
Panther Strikes Again at
Birmingham Groves. David
is preparing for a role next
month in Birmingham
Seaholm's Arsenic and Old

Lace.

SCHUBOT'S 75th

Jules R. Schubot Jewellers
celebrated their 75th an-
niversary on Nov. 11 by
hosting a party at their Troy
store for customers and
friends. The party marked
the beginning of their year-
long celebration. David
Hermelin and J.P. McCar-
thy helped launch hundreds
of balloons from the parking
lot to start the event.
More than 100 guests at-
tended the party. Each guest
couple had the opportunity
to burst a balloon and
receive a free gift. Lorraine
Jacobson won a $5,000
diamond bracelet. When
asked if she was always
lucky, Mrs. Jacobson
