Psychoanalytic Groups
Host Second City

Southfield

he Michigan
Psychoanalytic Foun-
dation and the Mich-
igan Psychoanalytic In-
stitute hosted a fund-raiser
Nov. 3 at the Ritz Carlton.
The comedy troupe Second
City performed at the event,
with more than 550 people
in attendance.
Dr. Ronald Benson, pres-
ident of the Michigan
Psychoanalytic Institute,
said the contributions will
be used for many programs
including low-cost services
for adolescents, and semi-
nars and educational pro-
grams to benefit the com-
munity.
During the comedy
routine, Second City called
on stage Wendy Shanker ,
a West .Bloomfield resident
and University of Michigan
student. Ms. Shanker
studies drama in Ann Arbor
and is part of the university
comedy group Fourplay,
which has four members.

BAR-ILAN WOMEN
HOLD BREAKFAST
The Detroit Chapter of the
American Women for Bar-
Ilan University recently
held a breakfast at the home
of Eileen Borsand. Among
those attending were Rosa
Chessler, Joanne Zuroff,
Leila Stollman, Sonia
Ribiat, Fran Rogers, Lisa
Cohen, Ruth Levi and
Pearlena Bodzin.
Professor Ruben
Schindler, immediate past
chairman of the Bar-Ilan
School of Social Work, spoke
at the event, describing the
university's absorption of
immigrants.
What unifies the new ohm
are learning Hebrew, the
army, education, and Bar-
Ilan's required one-year
course on the basics of
Judaism, he said.
He also noted that Ethio-
pian Jews are devoted to
Israel and the entire Jewish
people. For Ethiopian Jews,
he said, the concept of family
extends not just to parents,
children, aunts and uncles,
but to all of Israel.

Some of the psychoanalytic
supporters in the crowd in-
cluded: Gert and Dave
Matz, Helen and Fred
Shevin, Barbara and Gary
Eisenberg, Arlene and
Rick Selik, Freda and
Joel Lerman, Miriam and
Dan Medow, Sandy and
Jay Zeskind, Don Spivak
and Sue Berendorf.

INSTITUTE DAY
The Women's Division of
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit held
their 44th annual institute
with Dr. Lester Fried-
man of Syracuse University.
More than 650 people at-
tended the two-day event
with Dr. Friedman lecturing
on American Jews in the
