JPM Seniors
Plan Programs

The Cantor's Son will be
shown 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at the
Yiddish Film Series at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center. This
1937 film is based on the life
of its star, Moishe Oysher.
There is a charge.
A concert of Broadway
melodies featuring singer
Alice Bentley will be
presented 1 p.m. Nov. 7, at
JPM. Reserved tickets may be
obtained at the JPM box of-
fice. There is no charge to
Senior Adult Center
members.
Broadway show tunes and
Yiddish melodies will be part
of the Wednesday Afternoon
Social 1-3 p.m. at JPM. Local

Local Elderhostels
Set For Butzel

The Fresh Air Society and
the Midrasha College of
Jewish Studies will offer
seven six-day Elderhostels at
the Butzel Conference Center
March 29, May 17, June 28,
July 12, July 26, Aug. 9 and
Aug. 23. The Fresh Air Socie-
ty will direct the facilities,
programming and on-site
coordination; the Midrasha
will provide faculty and cur-
riculum development.
Academic programs for
March, May and June include
"Philosophers Who Made a
Difference," "Stories: The
Soul of the Jewish Ex-
perience," "Intergroup Rela-
tions and Conflicts," "Great
Trials in Jewish History,"
"1492: Five Hundred Years

Later," "Post Gulf War-Pre-
Arab/Israel Peace" and the
"Image of Jews in American
and Israeli Film."
The instructors for the
winter and spring programs
will include Dr. David
Schoem, Dr. Raymond Tanter,
Dr. Judith Laikin Elkin, all
from the University of
Michigan; Rabbi Sherwin
Wine, Birmingham Temple;
Corinne Stavish, Wayne
State; Renee Wohl, director of
the Resource Center, Agency
for Jewish Education; and Dr.
Yaakov Malkin, Tel Aviv
University.
The food service is under
the supervision of the Coun-
cil of Orthodox Rabbis.

Elderhostel is a non-profit
educational organization
which offers inexpensive,
short term academic pro-
grams for people 60 years and
over.

Senior Events
At Maple-Drake

The Senior Adult Depart-
ment of the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center
will host Funny Girl, 1 p.m.
Nov. 4. The film will be cap-
tioned for the hearing im-
paired and is free of charge.
Women on the Go will meet
1 p.m. Nov. 6 in Allen Lounge;
nutritionist Sharon Burns
will speak on diet and
nutrition.
Iry Ritter, former teacher,
school administrator and con-
ductor, will speak 1 p.m. Nov.
7.
He will discuss the role of
conductor, orchestra and
soloist, the musical score and
musical terminology. There is
a fee.
Women on the Go will spon-
sor a trip Dec. 4. A meal at
Union Street will be followed
by Shakespeare's Julius
Caesar at the Hilberry
Theatre. A discussion of the
play by a local expert will
precede the performance.

Temple Israel
Plans New Group

Temple Israel will form a
social group geared to those
who are "fifty-something."
The first meeting will take
place 9:30-11 a.m. Nov. 10 at
the temple.
Rabbi Syme will lead a
discussion, and a continental
breakfast will be served.
