GUINNESS BOOK of
World Records received a
replacement last Sunday for
the 1,054-foot shish kebob
made in 1989 in Pieter-
maritaburg, South Africa.
Five of the seven restau-
rants who make up the Mid-
town Restaurant District —
Mario's, Union Street, Traffic
Jam and Snug and the
Whitney — combined to erect
an 1,100-foot shish kebab
(about 3 1/2 football fields) as
part of the Detroit Institute
Festival of the Arts.
Vince Passalacqua of
Mario's on Second Boulevard
says that they used 875
pounds of beef, 4,400 cherry
tomatoes, 300 onions and
about 300 green peppers .. .
Folks bought six-inch por-
tions of the record-breaking
shish kebab, with proceeds
over cost going to Detroit
Festival of The Arts. 111
