Chairman John Wong Invites You To Enjoy

SUNDAY
MAGIC
SHOW
SEPT. 15

adults and 28 children frolic-
ed about in the fun.
And even those brazen bees
had a good time too,
harmlessly flitting about and
enjoying the leftovers on the
lips of empty pop cans.
Irene and Nate must have a
pipeline to whoever controls
the weather on Labor Day .. .
For the second year they had
perfect weather as people
celebrated . . . Congrats to
Ethel and Hy Blackman on
their 51st anniversary . . . en-
joying in true love fashion
with both eating from the
same plate . . . Anybody need
a waitperson? . . . How about
Sarah Pitt . . . Just name it
and the very gracious Sarah
would get it for you . . . Hub-
by Irving was a bit under the
weather, so didn't come this
year to also pitch in.
Even a floor show, with
Alan "The Singing Window
Washer" Schwartz doing his
funny bits and singing .. .
Alan's famous one-liners are
good laugh getters . . . The
Mello's quartet, Michigan's
top a cappella group were a
hit with their '50s and '60s
tunes sung without musical
accompaniment.
Camp Nehelu, owned by
Fred Stein, was at one time a
popular camp for youngsters
who remember it well . . . The
beautiful lands are now
rented out for weddings, pic-
nics, sessions like Terri
Cassel's cheerleader classes,
etc.
A successful picnic outing
must have flies, right? .. .
Well, they were there too, but
made sure not to get in the
way of everybody having a
good time . . . Irene and Nate
had so much food that the
flies probably figured why
bother folks . . . there'll be
plenty left over.
THE INEVITABLE has
finally happened
Dimitri's of Southfield has
again closed its doors to the
public as a restaurant.
Not that Dimitri didn't try
. . . but absentee ownership
and constant format changes
(Greek, Italian, seafood, back
to Greek and then Italian
again) were bound to take
their toll.
However, he always some-
how managed to bounce back
. . . Chances would be good for
him if he stuck to catering
and concentrated solely on
this instead of the restaurant
business.
Dimitri is a likeable sort .. .
and many folks will pull for
him to once more weather the
storm and begin sailing
again.
DISA 'N DATA ... Ever
since she saw a husband call-
ing contest at the Michigan
State Fair 30 years ago,

Phyllis Grossman had ambi-
tions of someday being in one
. . . She was at the recent fair
helping hubby Bernard "Bun-
ny" Grossman in his Great
Lakes Cooling and Heating
booth when Phyllis entered
the husband calling contest
and took third prize with her
call for "Bunny" .. .
Loving Cup with Danny
Jordan and Marlene Hill is
Tuesday through Thursday
till end of September at Ex-
calibur, Franklin and 12 Mile,
where a bottle of '83 Dom
Perignon champagne at $75
is cheaper than even most li-
quor and wine stores . . . Con-
grats to Sue and Leo Knight
who recently combined their
birthdays totaling 125 years
with celebration at Morels .. .
first time the family has been
together in almost five years
. . . No, Leo didn't take pic-
tures at his own affair,
although it seems that years
back he did do his own
shutter-clicking at a shindig
for him.
Harry Connick Jr., probably
one of the hottest acts in show
biz today, hopefully will be
the headliner for Michigan
Cancer Foundation's black tie
biggie event, May 9 at Palace
of Auburn Hills . . . Kicking
off MCF's Circle of Fellows
season is football theme, Sept.
28, at home of William P.
Baer in Grosse Pointe Shores
. . . An MCF great idea is
something more charitable
groups should do . . . letting
invitees know on invitations
what amount of deduction
can be taken . . . Next should
be someone coming up with
easy way to get to tables
without all those jumbled
numbers to wade through.

Annual Cherub Donor Lun-
cheon by Infants Service
Group is set for Oct. 2 at Tam
O'Shanter Country Club with
this year's theme featuring a
musical program . . . For info,
call overall chairperson Jean
Bale, 851-5455; Belle Rosen-
bloom, 557-3868; or Sara Sim-
mer, 557-9165 . . . Joan and
Saul Kalt dancing outside
after Excalibur valet brings
his car and he puts on the
radio . . . Darlene and Mary
Leader cutting a terrific rug
on the dance floor inside .. .
Annual "Autumnfest" by
Southfield, Sept. 15 at Mary
Thompson Center on
Evergreen and 101/2 Mile, will
be an old-time country fair for
family fun . . . and free .. .
Madam Cleo Aubin as usual
on target with her off-the-cuff
astrology readings while be-
ing introduced to people .. .
Eighth anniversary party by
Nicky's, W. Big Beaver, Troy,
is Sept. 16 . . . always a gala
shindig. ❑
