Shaarey Zedek Productions

Cable television stations dur-
ing September.
The program consists of
liturgy from the High Holy
Days performed by the
Shaarey Zedek Choir,
directed by Eugene Zweig;
and solo performances by
Cantor Chaim Najman and
shofar blowing by Yale Levin.
There also is an interview
portion with the cantor and
Mr. Zweig by the host of the
program, Geri Levit.

Orchestra will be joined by
violin virtuoso Itzhak
Perlman for a special Season
Opening Gala concert 8 p.m.
Sept. 4 at Orchestra Hall. For
his appearance with the DSO,
Mr. Perlman has chosen
Mendelssohn's Violin Concer-
to in E minor. The concert will
feature Verdi's Overture to Les
Vepres Siciliennes; Barber's
Essay Na 1 for Orchestra; and
Strauss' Suite from Der
Rosenkavalier.
In addition, the Volunteer
Council will present a black
tie buffet dinner to celebrate
the beginning of the DSO's
1991-92 season entitled The
Event in the Tent 6 p.m. in a
tent in Orchestra Park, adja-
cent to Orchestra Hall.
Readers Theater
Opens Season
Readers Theater will open
its fifth season with three per-
formances 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22,
Oct. 20 and Nov. 24 in the
Aaron DeRoy Theatre of the
Maple-Drake building.
This fall series will feature
stories by well-known authors
such as Bernard Gottfryd,
Molly Picon and Leo Haber,
read by professional Detroit
area actors including David
Fox, Elizabeth Elkin Weiss
and Paul Winter.
All performances are
preceded by a complimentary
wine bar at 3 pm. For ticket
