Folktown
Opens Season

The Folktown Coffeehouse
of Southfield will begin its
12th season 8 p.m. Sept. 14.
The series will be held every
Saturday night through Dec.
7 (with the exception of Sept.
28 and Nov. 30).
The series kicks off with
two performers — Claudia
Schmidt and Sally Rogers.
Claudia Schmidt plays guitar,
dulcimer, pianolin nd sings a
wide scope of traditional and
original material in folk and
jazz.
Sally Rogers plays guitar,
banjo and lap dulcimer and
also has an extraordinary
voice.
This concert will be held in
Room 115 of the Parks and
Rec. building of the
Southfield Civic Center;
there is a charge.
Folktown will continue the
season with two stars of the
Chicago folk scene, Catherine
Hall and Mark Dvorak, Sept.
21. Catherine is known for
her interpretations of tradi-
tional folk songs and Irish
ballads. She plays Irish tunes
on flute and tin whistle and
accompanies her singing on
lap dulcimer and guitar.
Mark performs in the tradi-
tion of Woody Guthrie, with
folk ballads, blues and old
time tunes, on five string ban-
jo and 6 and 12 string guitar.
This concert like most of
Folktown's series will be at
the Marcotte Room of the
Civic Center. Tickets will be
available in advance via
Ticketmaster, 645-6666, or at
the door until sold out.

DSOH Council
Plans Fund-Raiser

The worlds of classical
music, interior design,
historic preservation, and
culinary arts will merge this
fall for a fund-raising event
with proceeds to benefit
Detroit Symphony Orchestra
Hall.
Symphony Showplace '91, a
show home concept gone up-
town, will open to the public
a variety of beautifully ap-
pointed River Place Apart-
ments Oct. 5-20. River Place
Apartments are located in the
Stroh River Place campus on
Detroit's waterfront, in the
former Parke Davis complex.
The units are examples of
historic restoration.
Symphony Showplace is
sponsored by the Volunteer
Council of Detroit Symphony
Orchestra Hall (DSOH), River
Place Apartments, the Mich-
igan Chapter of the American
Society of Interior Designers
(ASID), and Stroh River
Place.
