SHIRLEE BLOOM'S

TRADITIONAL
ROSH HASHANAH CARRY-OUT MENU

an 80-apartment addition to
their 340-unit senior citizens
residence in Madison Heights
. . . The two existing
buildings are the Madison
Tower and Solberg Tower,
which share a common kit-
chen open to all seniors,
residents or otherwise.
Their North Cranbrook
Associates Construction Co.
and Wingate Management
are still working on a
130-unit senior citizens hous-

near its new public garage.
CONGRATS . . . to Tillie
(Klugman) Kay . . . on her
90th birthday . . . being
celebrated tomorrow with a
dinner party for 75 at the
home of her grandchildren,
Andi and Bruce Katz . . .
given by children Rita Levitt,
Lallore and Sol Stone, Ber-
nyce Heller, Norma Hess,
Dennis Kay and Myra and
Andy Fried.
TONY AWARD winner
and actor Mandy Patinkin
has a big fan in Shelly Young
. . . but now even more so for
his thoughtfulness.
She recently had tickets to
his concert at Pine Knob and
wasn't aware that the first 26
rows would eventually be
made available to the general
public . . . So Shelly bought
the series that included his
concert to make sure of get-
ting decent seats . . . Didn't
happen and Shelly sent Man-
dy a letter three weeks before
his appearance here, to the
theater on Broadway where
he was appearing . . . Four
days later, Shelly received a
phone call from New York and
good tickets were left in her
name at Pine Knob.
After the show, she was able
to speak to him and give
thanks for the fine seats .. .
On her mind was also some-
thing else . . . as Shelly
discovered for certain that the
call she had received from
New York was by Mandy
Patinkin himself . . . who had
phoned just prior to going
onstage.
CONGRATS TO Leonard
Simons . . . on his 87th birth-
day . . . celebrated with a
family dinner at Franklin
Hills Country Club and office
party at Simons Michelson
Zieve.
DISA 'N DATA . . . Debbie
Marshall opened Novi Hilton
over six years ago as its sales
director, was also there a year
before, during construction,
and is now general manager
of the new Hilton Suites in
Auburn Hills . . . She has
been with the Hilton chain 15
years . . . The "borrowed"
class picture is back at Mar-
vin's Marvelous Museum
after recent column item .. .
Marvin Yagoda says many

folks phoned to loan him
another photo so he could
make himself a copy . . . Sure
miss the days of those
Chinese hand laundries .. .
Anybody know of a cleaner
that specializes in shirts? .. .
Diane Risko, catering gal at
the former Roman Terrace 10
years, is now at Hotel
Baronette in Novi, booking
meetings, social functions,
etc.
Vienna Wholesale and K.
Lefkofsky Co. have merged
. . . It's now called Lefkofsky-
Vienna Co., run by Dan
Lefkofsky and Marty Cook
. . . Fellow at Franklin Rac-
quet Club exercising with a
cigar in his mouth was all
alone, even though it wasn't
lit . . . Good thing some cops
in squad cars are in the
minority . . . those who don't
wear seat belts, go well over
the speed limit while cruising
and ignore traffic signals .. .
not much of an example .. .
Thank heaven for the good
ones . . . and there are plenty
of them .. .
BBYO Alumni get-together
being planned is for folks who
have been in AZA, BBG or
BBYA . . . Call the BBYO of-
fice, 788-0700, for more info
. . . New Orleans-style chari-
ty dinner-dance for Detroit
chapters of Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation, Hemophilia
Foundation of Michigan and
Children's Leukemia Founda-
tion is Aug. 8, 6:30-10:30 p.m.,
with "An Evening on Bour-
bon Street: A New Orleans
Jazz Celebration" at the
Westin Hotel .. .
Big fun bet is the Roaring
'20s Millionaire's Party, Aug.
10 at the Roostertail
celebrating Goodwill In-
dustries' 70th anniversary
. . . $30 tickets include stroll-
ing dinner, live bands, silent
auction and $10 in chips for
the gaming tables . . . Chuck
Muer restaurants recently
received "Corporation of the
Year" award by the Tasters
Guild, international associa-
tion of wine fanciers .. .
Overheard: "It's not true
that I married a millionaire,
I made him one" . . . "What
was he before you married
him?" . . . "A multi-
millionaire" . . . And then
there was the little girl who
asked her mother, "Mommy,
do all fairy tales begin with
`Once upon a time?' " . . . "No
dear," said the mother.
"Sometimes they begin with,
`Honey, I was detained at the
office' " . . . Former Gildy's
boss, Alan Gildenberg, is back
