Artist Of Year

Dodi Sikevitz of West
Bloomfield is the recipient of
the Palette and Brush Club's
Artist of the Year Award,
presented by outgoing presi-
dent Sharon Stewart at the
annual luncheon. This award
r is earned by receiving the
'\_ most points for paintings sub-
mitted for jurying at monthly

meetings.

Ms. Sikevitz also was in-
stalled as the new president

of the club, and won first place
in the spring exhibition,

"Point of View," held at the

Country Galleria in Pontiac.
\-. Ms. Sikevitz is an artist in
watercolor and oil, an instruc-
tor at the Village Club in
Bloomfield Hills and was Ar-
tist of the Month at the Com-
munity House in Birming-
ham in May.

display at the Jewish Com-
munity Center of Washtenaw
County in Ann Arbor.
Presented by Museum Art
Editions in Farmington Hills,
the exhibit includes works by
Josef Zaritsky, Israel's first
major abstract painter;
Avigdor Stematsky and
Yehezkel Streichman, leaders
of Israel's New Horizon's art
movement; Ori Reisman, one
of Israel's finest landscape
and portrait artists; and Zigi
Ben Haim, a contemporary

London Arts Gallery will
host Peter Mayer's "Dogs
Across America" tour July 9
at the Fisher Building.
Peter Mayer, a New York ar-
tist, has become known over
the last few years for a style
of graffiti art. He is known as
"The Dog Man" for his
gestural images of dogs
painted throughout the
streets of New York. Gracing
buildings, construction sites
and anything paintable on
the New York street, his dogs
have breathed life into areas
that were otherwise
decorated with scrawled,
spray-painted grafitti. Mr.
Mayer paints with broad
strokes, creating direct and
simple forms that com-
municate a sensation of
positive energy.

Midrasha-College of Jewish Studies
