Passover Workshop
At Adat Shalom

Adat Shalom Synagogue
will present "Passages To
Freedom — A Pre-Pesach
Workshop on the Manifold
Meanings of the Exodus" 7:30
p.m. Mar, 6, 13 and 20 at the
synagogue.
Rabbi Reuven Kimelman,
senior scholar at the National
Jewish Center for Learning
and Leadership, will open the
series Mar. 6 with a look at
"The Passover Haggadah as a
Rabbinic Text." Associate pro-
fessor of Talmud and Midrash
at Brandeis University, Rab-
bi Kimelman is a lecturer at
academic conferences,
meetings and synagogues.
On Mar. 13, Dr. Todd
Endelman, professor of
history and chairman of the
Judaic Studies program at
the University of Michigan,
will discuss "Jewish Eman-
cipation in Europe: Great Ex-
pectations and Dashed
Hopes." Professor Endelman
is completing a work on
Anglo-Jewish assimilation
and intermarriage.
Dr. Zvi Gitelman, Universi-
ty of Michigan professor of
political science, will share
his study of Russian Jewry on

will speak on "The Red
Heifer: Purity In Jewish
Thought" 8:15 p.m. Mar. 4 at
the Torah Center. The lecture
is part of the Monday night
series on Basic Judaism. For

stitute of Birmingham/
Bloomfield) will host a lecture
on "When It Doesn't Work —
The Torah Way Of Dealing
With Divorce" 8 p.m. Mar. 5

The Sarah Tugman Audio
and Audio Visual Library of
Bais Chabad Torah Center
has received 800 tapes of the
lectures of Rabbi Avigdor
Miller.

Midrasha Sets
Passover Talks

The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies will present a
program on Passover entitled
"Brown Bag It and Learn —
A Journey through the
Seder" noon Mar. 6, 13, 20, 27
at the United Hebrew
Schools.
The speaker of the series
will be Rabbi Bruce Aft, direc-
tor of the Midrasha and prin-
cipal of the Community
Jewish High School. Topics to
be covered include the history
of the seder, structure of the
Haggadah, the meaning of ex-
ile and exodus, slavery and
freedom, the significance of
the seder rituals and symbols
and the reasons why ques-
tions, especially from
children, play such an impor-
tant role in the seder drama.
Participants may bring a
bag lunch. Dessert and coffee
will be served. The Woman's
Auxiliary of the United
Hebrew Schools will co-
sponsor the program on Mar.
20. There is a charge.
