Machon Presents
Chanukah Events

Machon LTbrah, the Jewish
Learning Network of
Michigan, will hold a
Chanukah lunch and learn
program at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 17
at the Jewish News in
Southfield.
This program, led by Rabbi
Avraham Jacobovitz, director
of Machon L'Torah, is called
"Have Lunch with
Maimonides" and will discuss
the philosophy and laws of
Chanukah.
There is no charge. Reserva-
tions are required by 10:30
a.m. Dec. 17.
For reservations, call
967-0888.
Machon L'Torah will hold a
Chanukah learning program
for the newly arrived Soviet
students and young profes-
sionals at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
The program, which will be
led by Rabbi Avraham
Jacobovitz, and translated by
Mrs. Lena Grinman, will be
held at the Machon Learning
Center. There is no charge.

vations are required.
JudaiCollege will present a
program at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17
at Machon L'Torah on "Crude
Politics and Pure Oil,
Chanukah and Current
Events." Rabbi Avraham

Aleynu Sponsors
Lunch And Learns

Aish HaTorah/Aleynu spon-
sors opportunities for profes-
sionals to take a break and
enjoy their lunch while they
study Jewish topics.
These classes are found in
Livonia, Southfield and
downtown Detroit. Rabbi
Tolwin teaches three Lunch
and Learns throughout the
week.
The lunch and learn in
Livonia is at the McCaffrey's
Office Produce building on
Mondays at noon. The
philosophical work, Derech
Hasham, The Way of God,
written by Rabbi Moshe
Chaim Luzzatto, is studied.
The downtown lunch and
- learn is held at the Jewish
Welfare Federation on
Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.
The Southfield lunch and
learn is held at the Jewish
News office on Thursdays at
noon. The meaning of the
prayers and the purpose of
prayer is studied.
All classes are free. For in-

Lecture Set

The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies, B'nai B'rith
Michigan Regional Council,
and the Michigan Board of
Rabbis presents the third lec-
ture of their Lunch and Learn
series on Dec. 20.
Rabbi Mark Cohn, director
of the National Conference of
Synagogue Youth, will speak
on "A New Twist to an Old
Problem: The Christmas-Cha-
nukah Dilemma." A kosher
lunch will be served at noon;
the lecture will follow.
On Jan. 17, Rabbi David
Feder of Temple Emanu-El,
will speak on "They Paved
Paradise and Put Up a Park-
ing Lot: Judaism and the En-
vironment."
The series is held at the
United Hebrew Schools
building. There is a charge.
