Marina Furman, former
Soviet refusenik, will speak 6
p.m. Nov. 28 at a gathering of
the Business and Professional
Women's Division on behalf of
the 1991 Allied Jewish
Campaign.
The event, for the Advance
Gifts and $750 sections, will
be held at the home of Linda
Powers.
Ms. Furman and her fami-
ly emigrated to Israel from
the Soviet Union after
waiting for visas for 12 years.
During that time, she suf-
fered from beatings by the
KGB, an attempt on her un-
born child's life in the
delivery room, discrimination
and loss of her job.
Ms. Furman currently
works with the Israeli govern-
ment on behalf of new
immigrants.
The dinner meeting is be-
ing organized by Ellen Bean
and Gayle Burstein, chair-
man and associate chairman
of the B & P $2,000 section;
and Marcy Borofsky and
Diane Ash, chairman and
associate chairman of the
B & P $750 section.
