LUNCH 11 a.m.
DINNER 4 p.m.
NOW SERVING
GOURMET PIZZA AND FRESH PASTA
AS A COMPLIMENT TO OUR
CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN CUISINE
everything made from scratch
. . . Only a small freezer is
there for the necessities like
shrimp, etc. . . . The former
large freezer has been turned
into a walk-in refrigerator.
There's entertainment
Tuesdays through Saturdays,
with live bands giving out
rhythms for listening and
dancing.
The multi-colored canopy
that overhangs at Nicky's is
a welcome sight for many .. .
and now with its added din-
ing entity, owners Nick Sorise
and John Reaser have gained
another big plus.
Nicky's has not only lasted
them all put together at this
location . . . but is here to stay
for a long time . . . in the win-
ning circle of restaurant/
nitery enjoyment.
JAYE COOPER, general
manager at Ristorante di
Modesta on Northwestern
Highway, plays the role of
Mama in the current Attic
Theatre presentation of A
Shayna Maidel which opened
today and runs through Feb.
25.
It's about a Holocaust sur-
vivor's reunion with her fami-
ly in America as she comes to
live in Brooklyn with her
American-raised sister.
A Shayna Maidel was first
seen at the Academy Theatre
in Atlanta, Ga. . . . After
many well-received produc-
tions it moved to the off-
Broadway West Side arts
theater for a successful run.
Attic Teatre is on Grand
Boulevard across from the
Fisher Building.
I LEFT Zeman's Bakery on
Greenfield north of 10 Mile
and headed for Rialto Cafe
via the new 1-696 expressway
. . . In six minutes I was at
Rialto Cafe on Woodward just
north of Nine Mile . . . Im-
agine . . . only six minutes
away from that wonderful
fresh turkey cut right off the
bird.
NAME OF Armando's-
Shalimar Mexican-Indian
restaurant on Orchard Lake
Rd., which now serves about
75 percent of the latter fare,
will have a name change soon
. . . With Armando Galan out
of the picture, the title will
solely be Shalimar and a
decor facelift is slated to take
away the present Mexican
look . . . Food will be 100 per-
cent that of India.
STRANGE WHY a local
magazine keeps the same
comments about restaurants
month after month . . . Some
of the places aren't even in
business anymore.
THIS SUNDAY is another
biggie for culinary en-
thusiasts . . . Southfield's an-
nual "Michigan the Boun-
tiful" gourmet tasting featur-
ing creations by some of
Michigan's top chefs.
It's from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in
the Southfield Civic Center
Pavilion on Evergreen and
Civic Center Drive.
Tickets are $35 at the door
or $30 if gotten by today .. .
All proceeds benefit the
Michigan Chefs de Cuisine
Association scholarship fund
for apprentice chefs.
City of Southfield and
MCCA are co-sponsoring the
always-awaited event which
is limited to 1,000 persons.
JUST A THOUGHT . . . If
surgeons can do very delicate
operations while wearing
skin-tight rubber gloves, why
can't foodhandlers and
waitpersons in restaurants
. . . (Remember when some of
your top restaurant waiters
used to wear those clean
white gloves?) . . . No doubt of
it . . . the adherence to better
food handling hygiene will in-
spire customer confidence .. .
and bring more business .. .
to say nothing of improving a
restaurant's image.
ROMANCE, ROMANCE
by Birmingham Theatre for
five weeks, appropriately
opens on Valentine's Day,
Feb. 14.
It's two musicals at the
same time . . . The opening
one has a man and a woman
in turn-of-the-century Vien-
na, wealthy, bored, strangers
to each other . . . Each decides
to go into the city disguised as
a working-class person in pur-
suit of true love . . . They
meet by accident and
romance number one begins.
The second musical has two
modern, married couples
vacationing together and
wondering what it would be
like to be married to the part-
ner in the other couple . . . All
ends happily with everyone in
love.
COULD BE that folks will
soon be able to get true
kosher hot dog sandwiches at
Palace in Auburn Hills .. .
The present Isaac Gellis hot-
dogs are served on non-kosher
buns . . . But Zeman's may be
supplying them in an all-
kosher Isaac Gellis cart.
NEW BALLROOM
holding about 850 people is
slated to open sometime this
month at Ritz Carlton Dear-
born . . . John Ponzio is new
director of catering.
