wonderful onion rings, New
England clam chowder, and
the many goodies folks
remember.
It is on the corner of 10 Mile
and Telegraph . . . seating 100
people on those cane-backed
chairs, at butcher block tables
amid brown, beige and navy
geometric wallpaper.
Dorothy sold it Dec. 6 of last
year to South Korean sisters
Cha Yun Harris and Jung
Sook Parrish, who have re-
tained the same menu of so
many things people remem-
ber and enjoy.
They are assisted by Cha
Yun's husband, Detroit police
officer John Harris, also a
police helicopter pilot
teaching rappel operations
. . . Rappel is much like
mountain climbing, with a
rope tied around a person's
waist while he or she slides
down a rope from the heli-
copter for rescue missions on
burning buildings or what-
ever the need may be.
John and Cha Yun met
while he was stationed in
Korea with the U.S. Army
and were wed 20 years ago .. .
Jung Soo also met and man'
ried her late husband, Ivory,
in Korea 25 years ago . . . He
was later stationed in Viet-
nam, from where Ivory never
returned.
Employees like waitress
Marge Northrup are
stalwarts at Mercury Fish
and Chips, staying a long
time . . . Marge has been
there over 20 years.
Mercury Fish and Chips is
located behind the Amoco
Station . . . and open six days
a week . . . Monday through
Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.;
Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and
Saturday, 12 noon to 9 p.m.
The menu is nostalgic .. .
and the food still good.
