Ex-Detroiter's Photos
On Exhibit In Chicago

in Israel:
"Women
Photographs by Joan Roth"
will be featured April 3-July
30 at the Spertus Museum in
Chicago.
Also beginning April
3-June 18 is "Women of Valor:
The Story of Hadassah
1912-1989," a photographic
celebration of the history and
mission of Hadassah on the
occasion of its 75th anniver-
sary assembled by The
Nahum Goldmann Museum
of the Jewish Diaspora in Tel
Aviv.
In conjunction with the
Roth exhibit, the Spertus
Museum will present a
special program with Brig.
Gen. Amira Dotan, former
Commander of the Women's
Corps, Israel Defense Force,
and Roth in a dialogue explor-
ing myths about Israeli
women.
An ethnographer and
photographer, Roth spent five
months in Israel examining
the diverse cultural back-
'ground of Israeli women, as
well as their values and at-
titudes about upholding or re-
jecting their biblical and
religious roots. "Women in
Israel" is a photo essay depic-
ting the many faces of Jewish,
Christian and Moslem
women with extensive ethno-
graphic commentary.
One of her most recent pro-
jects, "The Jews of Ethiopia,"
was exhibited at the Ethno-
graphic Museum in Stock-

Is Planned

The Jewish Community
Center in conjunction with
Berkley Tours presents "The
Stratford Experience" June
27 and 28 when a trip will
take place to see Kiss me Kate
and Love's Labours Lost.
The trip includes deluxe
non-smoking motorcoach
transportation, admission to
both plays, lunch, dinner, a

Inn, a city tour, and baggage

teacher, Andrey Ilyasov, to its
music faculty.
