DANNY RASKIN
Local Columnist
hen Pat Archer
gives a party . . .
he GIVES a party!
. . . With the aid of Executive
Chef Marty Wilk, at Ex-
calibur Restaurant and night
spot on Franklin at Nor-
thwestern Highway seven
months after it opened .. .
and the entire "X" staff,
celebration was for the fine
dining spot's 10th
anniversary.
It was also Sherry Fisher's
birthday . . . and to forget his
constant companion on this
important day would be a no-
no to Pat.
So whether they knew it or
not, the 600 or so people who
came and went during the
day's anniversary festivities
celebrated a two-fold fun-fest.
Hard to believe the top-
quality food put out by Mar-
ty . . . Cold hors d'oeuvres: en-
dive and blue cheese, cheese
and fruit trays, vegetable
trays, caviar, cherry-stuffed
tomators, steak tartare,
poached salmon with
cucumber sauce, chunky
vegetable rounds . . . Hot hors
d'oeuvres: leg of lamb, veal
loin, chicken stir fry, coconut
chicken, spinach and cheese
pies, sea scallops yin blanc,
escargot in puff pastry,
lobster en croute, stuffed
pasta shells, sausage kabob,
ribs . . . and a luscious-
looking sweet table.
Folks who entered Ex-
calibur saw Marty's ice carv-
ing outside with the big "10"
chiseled from a block.
Music for listening and dan-
cing was by the fine three-
piece "Double Exposure" .. .
appearing at Excalibur Tues-
day through Saturday.
Naturally the wave upon
wave of people . . . Arthur
Klein dancing with girls
shorter than him, Barbara
and Fred Finkelstein, Marge
Levin, Estelle Cantor, Marcia
and Gene Applebaum,
Marilyn and Sid Frumkin,
Dr. Al Fill, Jose Reyes, 43
years at the London Chop
House, starting out as a
busboy and now one of the
best bartenders in town;
Phyllis and Dave Barr, Bever-
ly and Sol Nusbaum, Bonnie
Silva, Betty Jean Rivkin,
Ricky Dee.
Anita Gilbert, pottery ex-
pert whose enlightment
about pottery being so many
things, even wall hangings;
was most revealing; Dr. Her-
man Bennett, Don Shore,
Marilyn and Harry Kosins,

tonio Foglia, Beverly and Dr.

Greenberg, Julie Abdul, Mary
Levine, Herman Shugal,
Doug Caravagio, etc., etc., etc.,
etc., etc., etc.
Connie Di Pietro is Ex-
calibur day manager . . . and
Robert Davis its evening
manager . . . Both were there
. . . amidst the newly-
carpeted dining spot with its
smartly decorated ceiling, live
lobster tank in the very clean
kitchen . . . and one of the few
restaurants I know with
automatic plastic seat cover-
ings in restrooms that rotate
with press of button for fresh,
never-used-before availability
without charge.
Sure there was Pat on the
stage in his tux greeting the
people . . . Pat was in rough
shape healthwise for a while,
but he's returned to action
again . . . taking it easier but
still back on a regular basis.
Bartender John Cetrone
with his bevy of tricks .. .
Anita Gilbert saying that
Jose Reyes at London Chop
House makes the best French
75 drink anywhere . . . tables
later removed from dance
floor and a lot of disco and
swingin' time . . . much
frivolity . . . as Excalibur
celebrated its 10th anniver-
sary . . . a decade of
enjoyment.
