With the aid of Executive Chef Marty Wilk, at Ex- calibur Restaurant and night spot on Franklin at Nor- thwestern Highway seven months after it opened .. . and the entire "X" staff, celebration was for the fine dining spot's 10th anniversary. It was also Sherry Fisher's birthday . . . and to forget his constant companion on this important day would be a no- no to Pat. So whether they knew it or not, the 600 or so people who came and went during the day's anniversary festivities celebrated a two-fold fun-fest. Hard to believe the top- quality food put out by Mar- ty . . . Cold hors d'oeuvres: en- dive and blue cheese, cheese and fruit trays, vegetable trays, caviar, cherry-stuffed tomators, steak tartare, poached salmon with cucumber sauce, chunky vegetable rounds . . . Hot hors d'oeuvres: leg of lamb, veal loin, chicken stir fry, coconut chicken, spinach and cheese pies, sea scallops yin blanc, escargot in puff pastry, lobster en croute, stuffed pasta shells, sausage kabob, ribs . . . and a luscious- looking sweet table. Folks who entered Ex- calibur saw Marty's ice carv- ing outside with the big "10" chiseled from a block. Music for listening and dan- cing was by the fine three- piece "Double Exposure" .. . appearing at Excalibur Tues- day through Saturday. Naturally the wave upon wave of people . . . Arthur Klein dancing with girls shorter than him, Barbara and Fred Finkelstein, Marge Levin, Estelle Cantor, Marcia and Gene Applebaum, Marilyn and Sid Frumkin, Dr. Al Fill, Jose Reyes, 43 years at the London Chop House, starting out as a busboy and now one of the best bartenders in town; Phyllis and Dave Barr, Bever- ly and Sol Nusbaum, Bonnie Silva, Betty Jean Rivkin, Ricky Dee. Both were there . . . amidst the newly- carpeted dining spot with its smartly decorated ceiling, live lobster tank in the very clean kitchen . . . and one of the few restaurants I know with automatic plastic seat cover- ings in restrooms that rotate with press of button for fresh, never-used-before availability without charge. Sure there was Pat on the stage in his tux greeting the people . . . Pat was in rough shape healthwise for a while, but he's returned to action again . . . taking it easier but still back on a regular basis. Bartender John Cetrone with his bevy of tricks .. . Anita Gilbert saying that Jose Reyes at London Chop House makes the best French 75 drink anywhere . . . tables later removed from dance floor and a lot of disco and swingin' time . . . much frivolity . . . as Excalibur celebrated its 10th anniver- sary . . . a decade of enjoyment.
