very upsetting," she says,
"and just as upsetting is the
fact that I have not yet
heard of any workable solu-
tions. We desperately need a
viable political solution."
Politics aside, the most dif-
ficult aspect of aliya has
been separation from fami-
ly and friends. But Adeena
has been lucky in that fami-
ly and friends have been
sympathetic and supportive
and paid visits to her in
Jerusalem. Her only wish is
that more of her fellow
American Jews would join
her in Israel. She concedes
that the country might
seem very foreign and
foreboding at first, but
asserts that it need not re-
main so. "By learning He-
brew;' she argues, "and by
caring enough to want to
change things, and by
believing in the importance
of Israel's existence, you can
become a part of the country
and make it feel like your
own." ❑
