much white fish is sold at
Hoa Kow Restaurant on Nine
Mile Rd. west of Coolidge in
Oak Park . . . noted for fine
Chinese and Cantonese food
. . . However, its reputation
for good Oriental dishes is
now being overshadowed by
the broiled white fish . . . ex-
cellently prepared and draw-
ing many customer raves.
The ratio of white fish now
sold as against Chinese food
is 30 percent and sometimes
40 percent . . . It's not
unusual for latecomers near
closing hours to discover that
Hoa Kow has run out of white
fish . . . This is a very good
sign, though, because it tells
you how fresh the fish is.
Steady customers coming
from a distance, call Gene and
Dan Woo that they are on
their way . . . and to put aside
pieces of those large whitefish
tails . . . Other portions of the
fish, by the way, are used for
lunch . . . They are complete-
ly boneless and can be gotten
broiled or Cantonese or
Szechuan style (both
steamed.)
A recent visit for whitefish
revealed tables galore having
the same thing . . . Hoa Kow
is also big on chicken and
veal, too . . . Big reasons are
that people have become more
health conscious and on diets.
You'd never believe it on
some days . . . that Hoa Kow
was a Chinese restaurant .. .
and not a seafood house!
WHO HAS THE best fresh
turkey . . . cut directly off the
bird as ordered? . . . It's not
my opinion alone . . . many
others agree also . . . Rialto
on Woodward and Nine Mile
Rd. in Ferndale .. .
You don't have to pay big
prices or go to ultra fancy
restaurants to get the best .. .
Others I've talked to who eat
at Rialto tell of its other very
fine low-priced_ dishes . . . I
must be in a rut . . .
Everytime I go to Rialto, it's
always the fresh turkey .. .
with gravy on the side. But
it's sure a delicious rut!
JEAN WICKMAN,
general manager at Holiday
Inn on Telegraph, has booked
the band "L'USA" Sept. 4
through October into Sassy's
Restaurant and Lounge.
FINAL CONCERT in the
children series at Meadow
Brook Theater is tomorrow,
11 a.m. . . . Puppeteer Mar-
shall Izen presents Rags, Bags
And Dragons in the Baldwin
Pavilion, Oakland University,
Rochester . . . Laurence
Liberson is guest clarinetist
at same locale this Sunday
when Paavo Berglund con-
ducts the Detroit Symphony
in an all-Debussy concert.
