pregnant with her daughter
Annie.
As a retailer and personally
purchasing infantwear, Linda
noticed that the cotton sleepers
were big sellers. She decided to
make them more stylish by
adding a multi-colored knitted
cap and sweater to match the
solid colored sleeper.
Schlesinger invested in a
knitting machine. The outfits sold
well in her store for $32. After
showing the outfits to a few
clothing representatives, she was
encouraged to enter a New York
show where merchants select
children's clothing.

In 1983 Linda Schlesinger
made six samples of the outfit in
different colors and instructed the
representative to only sell
$10,000 worth of clothing. "She
(the representative) sold every
store that sat down at the booth,
and sold out the first half-day of a
three day show," notes
Schlesinger.

II Understated Accents
The knitted vest still remains a
staple of the collection called
Annie's Antics. Today there are
over 70 pieces of clothing in the
spring '87 line.
Schlesinger still remains in the
retail business. Her store is now
called Kidz Kloz and is in West
Bloomfield. Kidz Kloz is a trendy,
upscale children's clothing store
with many designer labels,
including Annie's Antics.
Handsomely crafted accessories,
bold but never brash.

Another interesting aspect is
Schlesinger's relationship with
her competitors. She sells her
designs to neighboring stores like
Peanuts and We're for Kids. She
explains that she changes the
colors and appliques. "If you want
to grow, you have to sell to the
people that want to buy your
clothes."
