STROLLING IS OUR SPECIALTY

"BEST WISHES"

sense of style, repertoire
and personality.
By selecting a band
which normally plays the
kind of music you prefer,
and communicating those
preferences well in advance
of the wedding day, you
will probably be most hap-
py with the total result.
Choosing music for the
ceremony is also a decision
of Jewish atmosphere at
the wedding. A wedding is
both an important personal
and public religious occa-
sion. It affects individuals,
but also has important im-
plications for Jews;
In looking for specifically
Jewish musical choices,
much inspiration has been
drawn from "Shir
HaShirim" ("The Song of
Songs"). Perhaps the most
famous of these is "Dodi
Li," the Israeli tune by
Nira Hen. "Iti Milvanon,"
also by Nira Hen, is from
the same source.
Within this genre of
pleasant, flowing Israeli
popular songs of a genera-
tion ago, there are many
appropriate choices based
on both scriptural and
original texts.
In searching for Hassidic
music, one may choose
either traditional, authentic
material, or currently
popular "Hassidic-style"
songs.
For those interested in
classical music, Ernest
Bloch, the significant 20th
century composer, wrote
four wedding marches for
organ published by G.
Schirmer, New York City.
Although processional
music at the traditional
wedding is sometimes
chosen to emphasize the
serious nature of a wed-
ding, the recessional is
chosen for hand clapping,
dancing, joy. "Chos'n
Kalleh Mazeltou" is a good
choice for the latter.

Little Known
Facts

he wedding cake stems
from ancient Rome. Lit-
tle cakes of spelt — a
grain — were eaten by the
bridal couple at their wed-
ding to insure fertility.
During the reign of
Queen Elizabeth I, little
cakes were crumbled over
the heads of the bridal cou-
ple. Holding their little
pinkie fingers in the grand
manner of tea drinkers of
later years, guests scrambl-
ed to catch those dainty
morsels for consumption.
