ENTERTAINMENT

THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

ABOUT 300 ATTENDED
the beautiful and heart-
warming Dream Makers af-
fair put on by Bernie Moray
at his very stylish Gorman's
Gallery of Southfield on
Telegraph and 12 . . . Was for
benefit of Children's Hospital
... and Bernie's wonderful
gesture produced necessary
monies for purchase of the
new Cavitron Ultrasonic
Surgical Aspirator (CUSA)
used by neurosurgeons at
Children's Hospital for brain
and spinal cord surgery ...
and by general surgeons
there for removal of liver
tumors.
As Dick Purtan said at the
mike, everyone who attended
was a celebrity because of the
great cause ... Bill Bonds
showed another side with his
very fine standup comedy
while auctioning off donated
items ... Purtan must be a
Marilyn Monroe buff ... all
over the room designed for
him were pictures of Marilyn
Monroe ... Good thing Mona
Rappaport's daughter was
there to show her how to put
in a camera flash ... Hubby,
Dan Rappaport one of the
best dressed gents as usual
... Linda Solomon did it in a
second for mother Mona ...
So many people ... a real
fashion show ... tuxes, reg-
ular suits, women in long
dresses and regular also ...
The celebrity room for Bonds,
Purtan, Linda, Shirley Eder,
Tony Orlando, Marie Manoo-
gian, Isiah Thomas, Evelyn
Lucas and Aretha Franklin
were knockouts by Gorman's
11 designers ... Fine people
all for a fun evening ... in
helping a great cause.
The Cavitron liquifies
tumors, eliminates the tug-
ging and pulling which dam-
ages surrounding healthy tis-
sue which many times hap-
pens when standard surgical
instruments are used ... It
also decreases blood loss dur-
ing surgery ... The Cavitron
allows surgeons to remove
tumors which would other-
wise be inoperable, and
dramatically reduces the risk
of brain damage during
surgery.
Brothers Dr. Larry and
Bruce Weiss, bossgents of
Bruce Weiss Jewelers, buying
back their own watch they
donated for auction ... Be-
rnie Moray, owner of Gor-
man's so gracious ... Wife
Muriel agreeing that he is a
great guy ... Mort Weisling
telling of first Audrey Morel
... and thinking she was a
mannequin . . . Shelly and
Richard Golden and Sue and
Norman Pappas going on
cruise together ... Harriet
Fuller striking in off-white
designer dress and headband
to go with her blonde hair ...
Johnny Ginopolis a big smile
for everyone ... Sydell and
Doug Schubot reminding
folks about their jewelry
show, Nov. 17 ... Shirlee
Iden with writing award
number 20 just received ...

Shirley Eder bouncing about
while hubby Ed Slatkiri stood
his ground ... Barry Solomon
sneaking a Wendy's from
next door ... the slider his
breakfast, lunch and dinner
... Then came food donated
by Nicky's, Ristorante di
Modesta, Romaniks and
Ginopolis'.
The 300 or so people who
gave Bernie Moray and
others those great big smiles
no doubt slept very good that
night ... Because of them,
Children's Hospital has its
Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical
Aspirator.
FOLKS ARE ALREADY

novelist, was honored re-
cently when well-known re-

med the Paladium nightclub
in Manhattan ... Her just-
published book, Delicious Sex,
combines two of life's premier
pleasures ... In fact, Gael
entitled three chapters "Be-
ginning," "Intermediate," and
"Advanced Fork Play" ... a
list of ways for women to
entice men in restaurants.
NOVEMBER 21 is date

cadent Gloria Swanson look-
alikes ... This gathering of
elegant and sophisticated

magic of the era ... and the
cinematic richness with the
endowed Art Deco period.

at Eight, starring Jean Har-
low and Wallace Berry ... as
well as several cartoon favo-
rites, will be shown.
NEW GALLUP POLL
shows that customers in res-
taurants • want it all, accord-
ing to article in Oct. 27 issue
of Nation's Restaurant News

"It is one of the great un-
answered questions of the
fickle 1980s: What exactly do
restaurant customers want?
One day they are grazing on
tofu and salads; the next they
will be wolfing down choco-
late mousse pies and bar-
becued ribs.
"Now we have some an-
swers.
"More than anything else,
the dining-put public wants a
greater choice when they pick
up menus or look at menu
boards, according to the re-
sults of a recent national Gal-
lup poll. In other words, they
want salads and ribs, tofu
