A new Anti-Defamation
League exhibit highlighting the
history and contributions of
Michigan's Jewish citizens to the
development of the state will
debut to the public on Monday at
the Oak Park Library.
ADL's travelling exhibit
"Jewish. Life in Michigan" will
run through July 12.
The photographic exhibit
traces Jewish immigration to
Michigan from the first settler at
Fort Michilimackinac in 1761 to
the most recent arrivals. Jewish
contributions to the economic de-
velopment and cultural richness
of the state are documented in
pictures, artifacts, family
mementoes and artworks. In-
cluded are records of traditions
associated with Jewish holidays.
The exhibit is an extensive record
of the evolution of a cultural heri-
tag.; in the state.
"Jewish Life in Michigan" is
funded by a grant from the De-
partment of State, State of
Michigan and is a project of the
Anti-Defamation league of B'nai
B'rith's Michigan office. It is de-
signed to travel and will be
available to libraries, community
centers, civic centers, and organ-
izations throughout the state fol-
lowing its debut.
Judith A. Nolish is the curator
of the exhibit; Michael S. Jones
was consultant.
Hours for the exhibit are: Mon-
day through Thursday, 10 a.m. -
9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10
a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The Oak Park Li-
brary is located at 14200 Oak
Park Boulevard, Oak Park,
Michigan.
