Of course this is just a sampling of our

when Hattie and I came back we
went to see the show at Al Baloo-
ly's Topinka's. During the show
at Topinka's we had to look twice.
The entertainers were so realis-
tic, we thought we were back in
New York."
4,000 SQUARE FOOT
American Bar & Grill restaurant
has opened on second level of the
west entrance at Thomas' Crystal
Gardens (formerly Hillcrest) S.
Groesbeck, Mt. Clemens.
It specializes . in American
regional cuisine and features
entree items like grilled
swordfish and salmon, shrimp
pasta primavera, smothered rab-
bit, barbecued ribs and Cajun
blackened prime rib . . .
Homemade breads are baked in-
house daily . . . and all entrees
are prepared in open kitchens
with exhibition cooking.
The newly renovated area of
the banquet center now known as
the American Bar & Grill has a
1930s Chicago Steak House look,
with natural cherrywood and
brass throughout the predomi-
nately hunter green and bur-
gundy room . . . The dining room
has booth and table seating for
160 with an adjoining 40-seat
cocktail lounge . . . There is piano
entertainment, but on completion
of their meal patrons may visit
Chives nightclub on the first
level for cocktails and dancing to
top 40 entertainment.
It is open seven days a week .. .
Lunch Monday - Friday, 11:30
a.m. - 2:30 p.m. . . . dinner Mon-
day - Thursday, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.;
Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. -
Midnight; Sunday, 4 p.m. 10
p.m.
COOKING TIPS . . . If you
love baked potatoes, but are tired
of the long baking, try boiling
them first, for 5-7 minutes .. .
wrapping the taters in aluminum
foil . . . and popping them into a
400-degree oven . . . Contrary to
popular opinion, once tomatoes
have been picked, you shouldn't
-put them in sunlight . . . After
they are off the vine, allow them
to ripen out of direct sunlight .. .
Sunshine will only make the to-
matoes mushy and warm, not
ripe . . . No sense crying when
chopping onions . . . Just chop or
peel under (or close to) running
water . . . Know how to keep your
frying pan grease from splatter-
ing? . . . Just add a little salt to
the cold oil or grease before plac-
ing the pan on heat.
Here's one for kitchen-ites and
restaurateurs . . . a quick and
sure-fire method for skimming
the fat from home-made soup .. .
Just wrap a few ice cubes in
cheese cloth and dip it quickly
into the soup . . . The fat will
cling to the bag and your soup
will be fat-free.

Spanish Pupils
Study Rambam

Washington — Spanish secon-
dary school students are studying
for the first time the life and ac-
complishments of Maimonides,
author of the first compendium of
Jeivish law, thanks to the efforts
of B'nai B'rith Spain and its
president, Max Mazin.
