The League of Jewish
Women's Organizations of
Greater Detroit will host the
11th annual Jewish-Catholic
Day on Feb. 27 at 12:15 p.m. at
Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses, and will feature a coffee
and dessert buffet.
Guest speakers will be Rev.
Walter A. Hurley and Rabbi M.
Robert Syme.
The program will be opened
by the Leagues' presidents,
Marilyn F. Lundy of the League
of Catholic Women of Detroit
and Dorothy Cohen of the
League of Jewish Women's
Organizations of Greater De-
troit. This year's topic will be
"Religious Intermarriage." The
public is welcome. No reserva-
tions are necessary. A nominal
donation is requested.
Rev. Hurley is the judicial
vicar of the Metropolitan Tri-
bunal of the Archdiocese of De-
troit.
Fr. Hurley received his
Bachelor of Arts degree from
Sacred Heart Seminary, his
Master of Arts degree in educa-
tion at the University of Detroit
and took his graduate studies in
canon law at the Catholic Uni-
versity of America.
Fr. Hurley was ordained a
priest at Blessed Sacrament
Cathedral in 1965 and was ap-
pointed to his current position
in 1984.
Rabbi Syme is currently at
Temple Israel. He received his
Bachelor of Arts degree at Wes-
ley College, Winnipeg; his Mas-
ter of Arts degree in education
at the University of Pittsburgh
and his Doctor of Divinity at
Hebrew Union College.
A 33rd degree Mason and past
president of the Central Confer-
ence of American Rabbis, Rabbi
Syme serves as a member on
many boards of directors in the
greater Detroit area including,
Orchestra Hall, the American
Friends of the Hebrew Univer-
sity and the Jewish National
Fund.
