Detroiters Benefit
Jewish Seminary

Detroit Jewry will help celeb-
rate the centennial of the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America at its annual city-wide
dinner on June 6 at Adat
Shalom Synagogue, announced
Harold Berry, general dinner
chairman.
Berry is the chairman of the
executive committee of Tel-Am
Corp., president of Federal
Broadcasting Co., chairman of
Independent Sprinkler Co., Inc.,
and managing partner of Berry
Investment Co., Berry
Enterprises and Berry Capital
Co.
The Detroit dinner is part of a
U.S. and Israel drive to raise
$50 million in endowment and
maintenance funds by June
1987. Already, Detroiters Joseph
and Lawrence Jackier have
made a $100,000 gift to the sem-
inary and will have their por-
traits placed in the seminary's
Centennial Hall of 100.
Headed by Chancellor Gerson
D. Cohen, the seminary today
has more than 500 students at
its New York campus and
branches at the University of
Judaism in Los Angeles and the
American Student Center in
Jerusalem.
Its new Ivan F. and Seema
Boesky Family Library offers
the largest collection of
Hebraica-Judaica in the West-
ern Hemisphere.
Over the years the seminary
has developed a whole array of
innovative youth programs like
Ramah Camps. OMETZ — The
Center for Conservative
Judaism on Campus, Prozdor
and Midreshet Yerushalayim.
The seminary houses the
Louis Finkelstein Institute for
Religious and Social Research,
established and sponsors the
Jewish Museum and the Eternal
Light broadcasts on network
radio and television.
The seminary maintains a
permanent office in Southfield
with Allan Drucker as director.
