WHAT MAKES KINGSLEY
INN'S SUNDAY BRUNCH
SO GREAT ANYWAY?
FROM STAID BOSTON to
trendy Los Angeles, the "in" soft
drinks of year are Slice and Diet
Slice now introduced to Michigan
. . . It contains 10 percent real
fruit juice and reached selected
markets in early 1985 after al-
most two years of development
and tasting by Pepsi-Cola . . . Ac-
cording to mid-year survey sampl-
ings, even with limited distribu-
tion, Slice has captured between
three to four percent of the na-
tion's $25 billion soft-drink indus-
try.
Consumer demand for Slice and
Diet Slice, which is sweetened
with 100 percent NutraSweet, is
running well ahead of original
expectations, with result that
supplies are limited in many
areas.
Studies indicate that Slice has
been most widely accepted by ac-
tive adults between the ages of 18
and 34, including high school and
college students . . . It is also gain-
ing popularity as a unique
cocktail mixer.
(Voted Detroit's No. 1 Sunday Brunch in Metropolitan Detroit
magazine's readers poll, Nov. '84 issue.)

SAMMY WOOLF WRITES
... "A memorable day that stands
out vividly in my mind happened
during World War II. I was part of
a U.S.O. group entertaining ser-
vicemen at camps and hospitals.
"On a visit to Camp Custer
Percy Jones Hospital this particu-
lar day, we proceeded to entertain
our sick and wounded men in each
of the many wards. In this one
particular ward, I introduced our
gang and then asked for requests.
From somewhere in the back of
the room came a voice asking for a
request and as I approached the
makeshift bed made of straps,
there lay a soldier on his stomach
with tubes extending from him, a
sight I hope never to see again. I
asked what his favorite song was,
and to my amazement, he said,
When You're Smiling.'
"Needless to say, we were all
choked up, but sing the song I did,
and from that day on I adopted
that tune as my theme song.
"That evening, we did the big
show in the auditorium, and I told
the audience about that incident.
Talk about a beautiful outlook on
life, that soldier had it.
"So, when things look a bit
dark, remember this story.
Things could be a lot worse."
AS EVERY YEAR, Al Baloo-
ly's Topinka's, W. Seven Mile and
Telegraph, is all lit up with those
fabulous holiday decorations like
a little Las Vegas . . . It's always
beautiful but this time even more
so as a grandeur showplace .. .
combined with good food and ex-
cellent service.
