Pamphlet Offers
Holiday Guideline
An updated version of the
Jewish Community Council's
pamphlet entitled December Di-
lemma reminds thousands of
area recipients that, "To main-
tain church-state separation,
neither Christmas, Chanukah,
nor any other religious festival
should be celebrated in (the pub-
lic school) setting."
Howard Wallach, chairman of
the Council's church-state sub-
committee, announces that the
new pamphlet is being distrib-
uted to parents of Jewish chil-
dren in public schools as well as
to teachers and administrators
in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb
counties.
Created in cooperation with
the Council's media committee,
which is chaired by Berl Fal-
baum, the pamphlet reminds
readers that "Not everyone
celebrates Christmas or any of
the major religious holidays that
fall in the month of December."
In addition, the booklet reit-
erates the point that "The use of
public funds for any religious
observances in public schools
undermines the basic principle
of separation of church and
state.'
Copies for individuals who do
not receive December Dilemma
through regular distribution are
available from the Council pro-
gram service office, 21550 W. 12
Mile, Southfield. For informa-
tion, call Council's program sec-
retary, 352-6166.
