Irish Greet
Herzog Warnily

Dublin (JTA) — President
Chaim Herzog of Israel last week
summed up his state visit to his
native land, Ireland, by praising
the wonderful reception extended -
to him by the President, govern-
ment and people.
He also used the occasion to
chide the Irish press with losing a
sense of proportion over incidents
in southern Lebanon involving
Irish members of the United Na-
tic:ins Interim Force- in Lebanon
(UNIFIL) and the Israeli-backed
South Lebanese Army.
The incident occurred when
two Irish officers were allegedly'-.
struck by members of the SLA
when Irish troops sought to p re-
vent the SLA from detaining sev-
eral persons in a Shiite village.
The repercussions of the inci-
dent, dismissed by Herzog. as a
shouting match, totally domi-
nated his visit to the southern
city of Cork. Irish Foreign Minis-
ter, Peter Barry and Israel's
London-based Ambassador,
•Yehuda Avner, publicly dis-
agreed over whether_ or not Is-

raeli troops were also involved in
the incident. Herzog said that Is-
