Hitler Articles
Draw Flack

Vienna (JTA) — Neue Kornen-
zeitung, Austria's number one
selling mass circulation daily,
has been running a series about
Adolf Hitler as seen by his pri-
vate secretary. The series has
been criticized for its apologetic
character, showing Hitler pri-
vately and ignoring mass mur-
ders and wars he brought about.
The series is an excerpt of a
book by Christa Schroeder, one of
Hitler's two private secretaries,
who accompanied him for a long
part of his political life.

The Anti-Defamation League
of B'nai B'rith (ADL) has asked
the United States Supreme Court
to reinstate ten white, Michigan
teachers laid off by the Jackson
School District in 1981 under a
quota system requiring that the
proportion of black teachers
match the level of black student
enrollment. The court is
scheduled to hear the case this
fall.
In an amicus curiae (friend of
the court) brief, ADL National
Director Nathan Perlmutter says
that the Jackson school board's
quota plan cannot be upheld as
bona fide affirmative action,
which the League supports.
"Rather," the brief says, "the
dismissals constitute a blatant
pattern of preference in employ-
ment geared not to merit but to
racial quotas."

Vienna Church
Stays Closed

Vienna (JTA) — Reinhold
Stecher, the bishop of Tyrol, is
staunchly holding the line
against parishioners who de-
mand the reopening of a local
church that embodies in its tradi-
tions and decorations the
medieval ritual murder libel
against the Jews.
The church, in Rinn, a tiny
community outside Innsbruck in
the Austrian Tyrol, is called
Judenstein (Jews' Rock). The
Catholic cult that worships there
was officially banned by the Vat-
ican in 1961. But pilgrims con-
tinued to converge on Rinn sev-
eral times a year.

Beirut — Libya and Iran have
announced plans for an "Islamic
revolution" to "liberate Pales-
tine," according to a report in the
Wall Street Journal this week.
Libyan state radio, monitored
in Beirut Sunday night, said the
announcement followed the re-
cent three-day visit to Libya by
Iranian Parliament leader
Hashemi Rafsanjani. "Libya and
Iran have decided to work to-
gether in order to reunite the
Moslem and Palestinian forces in
Lebanon," the radio reporter
said.
