Dr. Aaron Demsky, renowned
archaeologist and a professor of
Biblical history at Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity in Ramat Gan, Israel, will
present a talk and slide show,
"Searching for the Lost Ark: Bar-
Ilan University's Excavations at
Shiloh," at 8 p.m. May 29 at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
The program is co-sponsored by
Adat Shalom Synagogue and the
Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity.
Dr. Demsky is a senior lecturer
in Biblical history at Bar-Ilan
University where he has been on
the faculty since 1968. He was or-
dained at the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America in June
1965. That year, he made ciliyah,
and he presently resides with his
wife and seven children outside of
Jerusalem. He received his docto-
rate from the Hebrew University
in Jewish history.
Dr. Demsky has published ex-
tensively in scholarly journals
and has lectured widely before
English and Hebrew speaking
audiences.

HMC Symposium
Sunday At JCC

Three university professors, the
principal of United Hebrew
Schools and an area inter-faith
leader will address a symposium
examining the failure of the
American government to take ef-
fective action during the
Holocaust 2 p.m. Sunday at the
Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield.
The symposium, sponsored by
the Holocaust Memorial Center,
will feature Prof. Sidney Bol-
kosky, of the University of
Michigan-Dearborn; Dr. Seymour
Farber, of the University of
Windsor; Wayne State University
Prof. Melvin Small; UHS Princi-
pal Dr. Jonathan Fishbane; and
Rev. James Lyons, director of the
Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish-Christian Studies.
