civil defense unit in Nahariya

Campaign he served as an officer
and in a voluntary capacity in the
civilian aid unit in the Lebanese
War.
In 1982, he was expelled from
the IDF because of his criticism of
the war. He organized a commit-
tee made up of Jewish and Mos-
lem members, residents of the
Galilee-, whose major goal is to
help the Palestinian refugees in
the Tyre and Sidon camps. His ef-
forts were recognized in 1983,
when he was awarded the Emil
Grunzweig Prize as man of the
year in the area of human rights.
Yermiya also co-founded the
Committee Against Racism and
for Co-Existence in Israel, a group
made up of Israeli Jews and
Arabs.
