and cafes of Hunters Square/Tally
Hall complex.

sales, prizes, giveaways and con-
tests in many of the retail stores
and eateries.

Craft Show" throughout Tally
Hall during mall hours . . . Stu-
dents from Oakland Community
College will put on a Ceramic
Show along with displays of
selected handcrafted items by
local residents.

NOSTALGIC .TIME affair for

many tickets left" level . . . It's
being put on by Friends of Multi-

17, 1978, and closed June 6, 1981

WHEN DARLENE ARCHER

comes back to Detroit in June
from her California home, first
task will be the remodeling of
Mario's on Second . . . There'll be
an all-new look at Frank
Passalacqua's very popular Ita-
lian restaurant . . . just the inside,
that is . . . its landmark look out-
side will remain the same . . . But
Darlene's great ability in making
a place come to life will be done in
such a manner as not to remove
the old world look of elegance at
Mario's . . . She's clever that way
. . . Darlene is responsible for the
fresh California and New York
look now at Excalibur . . . Her
New Year's Eve decorations each
year are always big conversation
pieces.
ONLY THING that looks
familiar is free-standing building
that at one time housed Alexan-
der's Restaurant on Nine Mile
just east of Coolidge . . . It's now
called Remal's . . . much cleaner
. . . with a new look that makes
eating there . . . breakfast, lunch
or dinner . . . so much more condu-
cive.
No more looking at a cook tos-
sing food onto an open area for
waitresses to pick up from its
counter . . . A closed-in look with
oak paneling has taken over .. .
The oak paneling also surrounds
all walls of the restaurant . . . No
more walking on tile floor . . .
there's carpeting now . . . No more
leaking roof . . . with buckets
strewn about . . . Owner Jim Sage
has had that problem taken care
of . . . No more watching waitres-
ses standing around juggling dis-
hes . . . they have their own area
. . . No more dirty windows .. .
The large glasses wall openings
are kept spotless . . . and there's
such a bright look now.
LOU DECILLIS came up with
a new formula to make fruit 'ices
kosher for Passover . . . and so got
certification by Orthodox Union
to produce kosher ices and ice

AFTER 24 YEARS, Stage Deli
on Nine Mile in Oak Park, has
gotten the soda pop owner Stan
Snitz remembers as a youngster
. . . Atlas . . . which many custom-
ers also recall from their child-
hood days . . . Atlas goes along
with Dr. Pepper and Stage's reg-
ulars.
The 80 give-or-take-seater will
get a slight facelife from today at 3
through Monday during closed for
Passover . . . New paint job and
drop ceiling . . . Same look will, of
course, be retained . . . wouldn't
look the same without those show
biz posters.
In the kitchen, Marie Jones has
been at locale since days of
Liberman's, Stage's predecessor
. . . Chris White behind the
counter and Irene Wagers, wait-
ress, have both been there 21
years.
Stage in Oak Park, by the way,
is one of the few places where you
can get garlic carp . . . when carp
is available.
