The Sinai Hospital of Detroit
Department of Rehabilitation
Medicine will offer a five-session
speechreading class, starting
Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Sinai's
Nathan I. and Betty Goldin
Health Care Center, 6450 Far-
mington, West Bloomfield.
The course, taught by au-
diologist Eileen Sarb, will be
aimed at increasing participants'
knowledge of hearing and hearing
loss and helping them establish
better communication strategies.
There is a fee. To register or for
more information, call the Goldin
Center, 661-9400.
The hospital guild, in coopera-
tion with the West Bloomfield
Public Schools Community Edu-
cation Department, will sponsor a
free program for weekend
athletes at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Or-
chard Lake Middle School, 6000
Orchard Lake Rd., West Bloom-
field.
Dr. Michael Sperl of Sinai's De-
partment of Rehabilitation
Medicine, will discuss sports
medicine and the weekend
athlete.

Sinai also announces the ac-
quisition of the Acuson ul-
trasound machine to detect fetal
abnorinalities.
The machine lets physicians
monitor the baby's heartbeart as
early as five weeks, and to see
kidneys, individual finger joints I
and as early as 13 weeks, the
lenses of the eyes.
Sinai is the first hospital in
Michigan to acquire the machine,
of which only a dozen exist
nationwide.

Living with cancer
topic of focus group

A focus on living with cancer
meeting will be held Wednesday
at 7:30 p.m. in the Southfield
Civic Center, Room 111.
Cancer patients and family

ment of their son, Bernard A. to
Lauren Michelle Jaffe, daughter

Bernard is a graduate of Wayne
State University and is a certified
