Center establishes Goldman Fund
to aid youth interested in sports
Robert Slatkin, president of the
Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit, announces
the establishment of the Kenny
Goldman Athletic Fund estab-
lished in the memory of Kenny
Goldman.
Because of Kenny's avid inter-
est in all types of sports, his fam-
ily, parents Rochelle and Milt, his
sister, Leslie, and his brother, Ar-
nie, felt that a fitting tribute to
him would be the development of
a fund which would encourage
and help young people to partici-
pate in sports.
With that in mind, the Center is
rapidly moving ahead with plans
for the Kenny Goldman Memorial
Basketball League which has a
'tentative starting date of Nov. 11.
The league is intended for chil-
dren age 8-10. The program will
run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. each Sun-
Author of book
on Barbie to speak
As a prelude to the Jewish Cen-
ter's Book Fair in November, Dr.
Erhard Dabringhaus, author of
Klaus Barbie: The Shocking Story
"-of How the U.S. Used This Nazi
Criminal as an Intelligence Agent,
will speak at a luncheon in the
' 'Center library at 12:30 p.m. Wed-
nesday.
Dr. Dabringhaus is professor
emeritus of German language and
cultural history at Wayne State
; University. He emigrated to the
United States in June 1930, when
his father, a leading labor leader,
"became disgusted with Ger-
many's movement toward
Nazism.
Dr. Dabringhaus served in the
U.S. Military Intelligence Service
from 1942 to 1950, was decorated
/ and rose to the rank of major. In
4.948, he met and worked with
Klaus Barbie who was the head of
an information network he had
organized and offered to the
American intelligence commu-
nity for a price.
,-; In a letter to NBC News (Jan.
31, 1983) Dr. Dabringhaus wrote:
6`If Klaus Barbie is ever brought to
trial in France or West Germany,
I would be willing to testify, since
I recall many more crimes com-
mitted by Barbie in France during
, the occupation."

eon in the library, call the Center,
