1■ "J'
community can be in a positive,
happy way; it added another di-
mension to the young people for
pride and accomplishment in
their Jewishness.
We should salute Max Sheldon
for his tenacity and determina-
tion to present to this country the
significance of "a sound mind in a
healthy body" — enveloped in in-
spiring ceremonies and well-
organized games. To him it was
paying his debt for "being alive."
It was the games of 1938 that re-
scued 5,000 children from Europe.
The tremendous effort and
work of the numerous leaders is
overwhelming: Marty Oliff, Jay
Robinson — the long list is incred-
ible.
This event was a happy, posit-
ive demonstration. It is an answer
to the pogroms, the Holocaust and
anti-Semitism generally.
Jewishness is a "many splen-
dored" experience.

Bar-Ilan article
On behalf of Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity and its Detroit friends I want
to sincerely thank you for the ex-
cellent article that appeared in
the Aug. 24 issue of The Jewish
News. It was a well-written fea-
ture, and it was very timely in
relation to our fund-raising ef-
forts.
