In your publication of Aug. 3
„ (Page 7), you ran a so-called satire
entitled "Double Life Revealed."
-
The article was to many of us
reprehensible in its content, false
outside the bounds of satire in
that it was accusatory in premise
and is particularly dangerous
since it is liable to misleading use
by anti-Semitic organizations
and/or persons, quoting portions
out of context. Certainly not in-
cluding your editor's note.
Satire is defined as the use of
irony, sarcasm, ridicule in the ex-
posing, denouncing or deriding
vice, folly, etc., burlesque, carica-
tive, parody, travesty.
In these bounds there was no
satire, only cruel, unthinking use
of far-fetched comparative physi-
cal features to demean two public
personalities.
I must conclude that this article
was not satire, but malicious deri-
, sion, outside the code of good jour-
nalism.

Your cartoon (Aug 24) which
equated Rabbi Meir Kahane at
the Jerusalem Press Club with
Rev. Louis Farrakhan at the
Washington Press Club was false
and malicious. It was an insult to
Jews in general, Meir Kahane in
particular, and to me.by inference
. e. e.
I would have hoped that The
Jewish News would have been
able to make the elementary dis-
tinction between those who are
the enemies of the Jewish state
and people and those who strive to
preserve and defend them.

Maccabiah games

` =

Something truly wonderful
happened in the Detroit Jewish
community. The experience of the
Maccabiah Youth Games. It
wasn't the competition, and the
winning of medals that generated
the marvelous warmth and ex-
citement. The generous, commit-
ted 400 families who hosted the
Jewish boys and girls from
everywhere, were thrilled, con-
scientious and excited from the
moment the first busload of
strangers arrived, until the time
they left as close, loving friends.
The demands placed upon
them, delivering the contestants
to the various playgrounds, con-
cerned with their health and
safety, and feeding and entertain-
ing their guests for seven days
joyously, was beyond expecta-
tions. The Youth Games were a
demonstration of what a Jewish

I was appalled when I saw the
cartoon concerning Rabbi Kahane
appearing on the Op-Ed page of
your Aug. 24 issue. To draw a
comparison between a notorious
anti-Semite like Louis Farrakhan
and an Orthodox rabbi — be he
Meir Kahane or another rabbi —
is unconscionable.
