of what is considered among
the new "sleepers" of local
restaurants . . . The Pike
Street Co. on Pike Street in
Pontiac . . . But prime own-
ers are Jim Fitzpatrick,
comptioller of ,Pontiac
Motors, and restaurateur
(Pickwick House) Richard
Kreger.
It is within a registered
historic - building built in
1893 . . . the former Michi-
gan Telephone Exchange
Service which took over in
1911 from Oakland Tele-
phone Co. . . . Same wood
beamed ceiling remains in
the main dining room . . . as
do steel fire curtains above
the windows . . . used to help
contain fires that might be
started by the highly flam-
able telephone switch
boards of that time ... The
. building was empty • ten
years before interior de-
signer Roger.Sherman took
over and weaved his ma-
roons and tans magic to
make it so very pleasant.
Original intent was serv-
ing fresh American cuisine
... and it now also leans
much toward being a fine
seafood restaurant as well.
Perch is not one of the
more spectacular items
listed on restaurant 'menus
. .. but at Pike Street, it is
an outstanding passion .. .
The small lake perch pre-
pared by Chef Charles
Cekala and his staff, is out-
standing . . . dusted and
sauteed in butter ... bone-
less, tender and very tasty
. . . No doubt among the best
dishes at Pike Street Co.
Harriet Jasiove said hers
was the best scrod'she•had
ever had . . . Hubby Harvey
called his Chicken Fiero
"absolutely magnificent"
and the marinated cole slaw
"great" . Marjie Ziff also
raved about her sole with
artichokes and 'husband
Steve says he'll sure be back
for more perch.
Our waiter, Tom
Johnson, was efficient,
courteous and very pleasant
