YOUR CHOICE OF ANY
"OLD TIME" DINNERS FOR TWO

taurant business . . . and a
couple of nice people.
They are Sylvia and Lou
Peppo, who took over the
popular 80-seater April 11
. . . with emphasis on keep-
ing up the high standards of
food and service maintained
by former owner Stephan
Becharas . . . plus that repu-
tation for immaculate
cleanliness.
tephan was more con-
ned with selling "his
baby" to the proper people
than anything else .. . He
seems to have found them in
Sylvia and Lou . . . both
very pleasant folks who
won't have any trouble get-
ting along with customers.
Lou is from a restaurant
'1" family . . . Cousin Jimmy
Peppo, former waiter at
Standard - Club when in the
Renaissance downtown, is
presently manager at
Franklin Hills Country
Club . . . Father, Chris, had
23 restaurants . . . Cousin to
Lou's mother, Danny Bour-
das, used to own Danny's
Gin Mill downtown and
then in Farmington Hills on
present site of Chuck
Miser's Diggers.
Back in 1947, Lou had the
Hub Grille on Woodward
near Congress . . . three
doors from Benny and Ethel
Resh's Club 509 . . . then
another on Bates and
Farmer . . . and a third Hub
on Livernois and McGraw
. . . He sold them in 1954
and bought the Brass Rail
on Michigan and Griswold
from Bill Boesky and es-
tates of Joe and Lou Freed-
man.
1958 was wedding date
for Sylvia and Lou . . . They
had the Brass Rail until
1969 . . . then took it easy
until 1973 when obtaining
The Village Pub on Eight
Mile and Farmington Rd.
until selling in 1980.
Now Sylvia and Lou are
back in the restaurant
business again . . . with son
Chris in the kitchen . . . and
Stephan still coming
around once in a while to
help out . . . This Nov. 9
would have been anniver-
sary number ten for him.
The Gallery on W..10 Mile
is still one of the suburbs'
s
most pleasant-looking, in-
timate neighborhood res-
taurants . . . with black
leather padded booths, ta-
bles, eight-seater counter
. . . spotless copper over the
almost completely mirrored
counter-back area, maroon
apes . . . and art galore on
gray wood and stucco
walls.
Stephan continues to run
and operate Gallery II in
Bloomfield Plaza, Tele-
graph and Maple.
