He seems to have found them in Sylvia and Lou . . . both very pleasant folks who won't have any trouble get- ting along with customers. Lou is from a restaurant '1" family . . . Cousin Jimmy Peppo, former waiter at Standard - Club when in the Renaissance downtown, is presently manager at Franklin Hills Country Club . . . Father, Chris, had 23 restaurants . . . Cousin to Lou's mother, Danny Bour- das, used to own Danny's Gin Mill downtown and then in Farmington Hills on present site of Chuck Miser's Diggers. Back in 1947, Lou had the Hub Grille on Woodward near Congress . . . three doors from Benny and Ethel Resh's Club 509 . . . then another on Bates and Farmer . . . and a third Hub on Livernois and McGraw . . . He sold them in 1954 and bought the Brass Rail on Michigan and Griswold from Bill Boesky and es- tates of Joe and Lou Freed- man. 1958 was wedding date for Sylvia and Lou . . . They had the Brass Rail until 1969 . . . then took it easy until 1973 when obtaining The Village Pub on Eight Mile and Farmington Rd. until selling in 1980. Now Sylvia and Lou are back in the restaurant business again . . . with son Chris in the kitchen . . . and Stephan still coming around once in a while to help out . . . This Nov. 9 would have been anniver- sary number ten for him. The Gallery on W..10 Mile is still one of the suburbs' s most pleasant-looking, in- timate neighborhood res- taurants . . . with black leather padded booths, ta- bles, eight-seater counter . . . spotless copper over the almost completely mirrored counter-back area, maroon apes . . . and art galore on gray wood and stucco walls.
