Gov. Blanchard to Address, Receive
Honors at Jewish Communal Events
The Michigan Trade
Union Council for Histad-
rut will honor Gov. James J.
Blanchard at a testimonial
dinner 7 p.m. Thursday at
the Fairlane Manor in
Dearborn. Cocktails will be
served at 6.
At the dinner, the Trade
Union Council for Histad-
rut, made up of representa-
tives from all the AFL-CIO
affiliated unions, the
United Auto Workers and
the Teamsters, will pay
tribute to Blanchard "for his
dedication to Michigan, the
region and his desire to im-
prove the quality of life for
its people."
The proceeds from the
dinner will be used to estab-
lish the Gov. Blanchard
Histadrut Perpetual Schol-
arship Fund. Through the
Histadrut Scholarship
Fund, more than 60,000
young people have been
provided with the opportu-
nity to attend any one of the
network of 60 Amal Voca-
tional Schools, which offer
instruction in electronics,
auto mechanics, aviation
mechanics, draftsmanship,
textile skills, carpentry,
home economics and other
trades or schools at the uni-
versity level.
The scholarship fund
also provides research '
grants for science,
medicine, social studies
and engineering.
The recipients of these
scholarships come from low
income, underprivileged
families among the Jewish,
Arab and Druze popula-
tions.
The chairman of the
dinner is William C. Mar-
shall, president of the
Michigan State AFL-CIO
Federation and the honor-
ary chairman is Lee Iacocca.
The guest speaker will be
Gov. Anthony Earl of Wis-
consin.

Seminary Dinner;
Blanchard Honoree
The June 15 dinner at
which the Conservative
Jewish congregations of
Greater Detroit will join in
support of The Jewish
Theological Seminary of
America will be addressed

hen.
Dr. Cohen, a noted histo-
rian, has completed his 10th
year as chancellor of the
seminary. He is the fifth
man to serve at the head of

the institution in its 97-year
history. Earlier he was pro-
fessor of history and direc-
tor of the Center of Israel
and Jewish Studies at
Columbia University.
A graduate of the semi-
nary, Dr. Cohen was or-
dained in 1948. He is a fel-
low of the American
Academy for Jewish Re-
search and also a board
member of the Jewish Pub-
lication Society of America
and of the Leo Baeck Insti-
tute.
Dr. Cohen also will con-
fer the seminary's Eter-
nal Light Award on Gov.

filiates. He has been a
member of Beth Shalom for
over 20 years. He also is a
trustee of the Jewish Voca-
tional Service and a
member of the board of gov-
ernors and executive com-
mittee of the Cranbrook
Educational Community.
He has been active on be-
half of the Jewish Welfare
Federation of Detroit as a
member of its Allocation
and Review Committee and
performed a similar service
role for the United Commu-
nity Services of Metropoli-
tan Detroit.
Arthur Boschan, an
