place, activities were held
at high schools, army bases,
kibutzim, andeven at major
food and textile factories,
where women make up a
disproportionately high
percentage of the lowest
paid employees.
In Nahariya, three pro-
fessional women — a
neurologist, a high school
principal, and a sociologist
— discussed the rewards
and difficulties of profes-
sional life for women. In Tel
Aviv, hundreds of women
attended an all-day seminar
on "Women in Manage-
ment." In 15 Naamat cen-
ters throughout the coun-
try, Arab women shared
their feelings about the
woman's position in Arab
society.
To encourage research on
woman's issues, Naamat
announced the establish-
ment of an annual prize of
$1,000 to be awarded for a
scholarly paper relating to
the position of women in Is-
rael. Naamat has also been
influential in formulating
the first women's studies
program in Israel to begin
this fall at Haifa Univer-
sity.
