sacred memory of six mil-
lion Jewish men, women
and children who were mas-
sacred by Adolf Hitler and
his Nazi hordes.
Increasingly, Christian
leaders are also beginning
to observe Holocaust Day,
because they recognize that
the Nazi genocide is not a
Jewish obsession. The in-
carnation of demonic evil in
the Nazi mega-machine of
death, they are beginning to ,
realize, broke all moral
limits of civilization.
The fact that Germany, a
■ country of high culture and
ancient Christian civiliza-
tion, was transformed into a
technological murder
machine that sought to liq-
uidate an entire people, and
almost got away with it, sets
a precedent whose conse-
quences have been fatal to
other peoples in other parts
of the world.

The failure of the
majority of mankind to
understand the historic
demonism of the Nazis,
and to stand against it
until it was almost too
late, has resulted in the
epidemic of dehumaniza-
tion and barbarism in so
many parts of the world
today — El Salvador,
Lebanon, Cambodia, Ire-
land and elsewhere:

Holocaust Day is an
opportunity to try to reverse
that trend — while there is
still time.

The less you can enjoy,
the poorer and scantier
yourself; the more you can
enjoy, the richer and more
vigorous.

Israelis Oppose
WB Concessions

TEL AVIV (JTA) — A
public opinion poll pub-
lished in Maariv shows a
steady increase in the per-
centage of Israelis who op-
pose any territorial conces-
sions on the West Bank.
The poll, conducted by the
Modi'in Ezrachi Institute,
also showed that exactly
half of those questioned
were in favor of a temporary
freeze on West Bank set-
tlement activities to enable
the start of negotiations
with Jordan, while 35.5 per-
cent were against.
The number against ter-
ritorial concessions rose
from 42.4 percent in De-
cember 1982 to 60.2 percent
in March 1983.
